I do really like Joanne, but I do find there's a certain x-factor missing that her other albums have. My other criticism is that the album is overwhelmingly low-tempo/sad from tracks 7 to the end.

Yeah, I definitely think it was somewhat, when you watch 5foot2 they talk about elevating her and her image by stripping it back. Each previous album they’d try to outdo the other and now they had to go back to basics in order for there to be somewhere to go in the future. She even says at one point “I can’t keep elevating myself to the point that I’m lady Gaga again, because then it’s like, why did you even bother making this record”
Obviously she can’t half this very analog record and rock the sort of looks she had for the first three albums, it just wouldn’t work
