Anyhow, he deserves to win for reasons besides his looks as you suggested.
People's only argument against him is his style of singing meaning he can only sing good opera based songs or similar.
But for one, I think he can handle a couple of more genre's.
Secondly, he'll be marketed at a "pop" audience anyway, so he'll just be singing love songs no doubt. Then something "deep and meaningful"
Thirdly, there's nothing wrong with being good at one particular style of singing. Almost all singers base their careers on just that.
