Sky charges seem unreasonable until you consider that everyone pretty much needs high speed broadband these days anyway. We got rid of Sky TV for ages because we moved to a little backwater where only BT had fast broadband (ADSL2+, 18mb) and sky could only offer 4mb .

There's no way I'd pay for just sky TV. But when we finally got Dragged into the modern era and the village got fibre optic, it actually worked out only about £5 a month more for Sky TV / Broadband / Line rental than it was for BT Broadband. So a fiver a month for Sky TV doesn't seem that bad.

That said, we still very rarely watch live TV. I'd still always stream or download TV series, e.g. we still tend to watch BBC on iPlayer rather than recording on SkyQ. We pretty much only watch reality TV trash on Sky .
