Default ‘Losers\' came out on top

RHYDIAN need not be too bothered about coming second . . . TV runners-up have often gone on to even greater fame and fortune.

Liberty X were the band made up from losers of the 2001 ITV show Popstars.

But while the winners Hear’Say faded away, Liberty X had ten consecutive UK Top 20 singles. Lemar finished a lowly third on the BBC’s Fame Academy, but is the show’s most successful graduate to date.

He was offered a five-year £1million deal after appearing on the show and has released three albums.

Gareth Gates came second to Will Young in the first UK Pop Idol, but still notched up an incredible 3.5million album and single sales in the UK alone.

Operatic foursome G4 lost out to ageing crooner Steve Brookstein in the first series of the X Factor.

They went on to release three albums before splitting earlier this year.

Journey South came third on the second series of X Factor but had a 2006 album which went platinum. Last month they released their second album.
