Theres a hard right government in power trying to dilute EU resolutions on environment.
There was a scandal couple of years ago when they allowed logging in the last patch of virgin forest in europe, Puszcza Bialowieska, a national park. Luckily it got reversed after a few years.
They are sort of trump lite, so you can imagine.
