Him not trying this was a common criticism, so I think it should have been at least partially addressed.
That would make sense really, it's shown pretty extensively that the reality stone creates illusions rather than altering matter (Mantis and Drax being sliced to pieces but then just sliding back together as soon as Thanos leaves rather than being... Very dead...) so there basically is no "creation stone", which would go along with the basic principle that matter cannot be created or destroyed (and that would also be why the unlucky 50% "dust" rather than simply popping out of existence). Could probably have been thrown into the first film, I agree.
