That is weird. I don't think I've ever seen a game where it didn't just "save state" and then resume. TBF I played on PC and I actually think I do remember accidentally skipping a cutscene or two.
Speaking of cutscenes though - if you have the "live action cutscenes" bonus content I thoroughly recommend a playthrough with it. It's mad as a fkn hatter.
