Well I actually liked S11 for that very reason
I pretty much gave up halfway into the Smith era, and it was only in S10 again when I was able to rejoin watching, but even then there were various plotlines I had no clue what they were in relation to. I think overlapping stories should just stick to season-long plots rather than spanning across like 4 seasons honestly.
