I dont agree with this thinking. Al Gore, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton all lost. The safe middle of the road candidate usually loses because why should Republicans vote for Republican-lite, like Klobuchar, when they can vote for the actual republican.
I feel its flawed logic at best. Using your thinking, Klobuchar, Biden, Bloomberg and Buttegeig are the best candidates. All bar Biden has a race problem. All will be easy to attack for Trump.
