they were never going to reduce the figures to zero, what they had to do was cause enough impact so that the pressure was lessened on the NHS. If the peak happens in the next week or 2 and the NHS is still coping, the objective will have been achieved.
They will reduce the severity of the lockdown at some point before people go insane, but it will be done in small steps, checking every 3 weeks if it has had a severe impact or not
It's going to take a long time before things are back to normal, if they ever really will be, the working from home directive could remain in place permanently until there is a vaccine or the number of infected reduce to double digits
