And imo if your characters aren't likeable or interesting to me then the story has got massive issues, even if it's the intention of the writer for it to be the case.

Well yes I would say the point of the film is a simple way to explain complex emotions to 8-11 year olds (it's about her discovering that life isn't always kind/fair, that happy memories can make you sad too, and the "dying" of her childhood personality as she heads into teen-territory).

Maybe it works better for kids or people who have kids that sort of age (mine are 7 and 10) .

Conversely... And I know this will be an unpopular opinion... I wasn't a huge fan of "Up"
