Yeah, a female Doctor isn't really comparable. It actually makes the most sense in the context of Doctor Who and the actual character hasn't really changed at all. It's just broadened the scope now for the actors who can play the part. The Doctor has always been pretty gender-less.

It was honestly the worst time for the writing to go down the pan, too. I honestly watched the first JW episode and thought "Oh no... it really doesn't work" buuut after watching the whole series I'm like "She's the only part that DOES work at the moment". But a lot of people will blame the decline in.. umm... watchability
... on Jodie's arrival, which is a shame. There have been one or two pretty good episodes, too.
