I was just more impressed by his performance in Beginners, and wrote that because I hadn't seen some of the other roles he's been admired for (Knives Out, 12 Monkeys, etc.)
I didn't know he was the voice of the villain in Up
and I'd forgotten he was in the American remake of the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo as well, thought he was great in that.
