Looking at his other tweets, it seems foolish to believe him without evidence.
The nazis were worse, but to the people the empire conquered and destroyed, it would make little difference. The Empire was an evil force to many in the world, we just don't see it because British people can only handle history when it appeals to their own vanity and arrogance.
