I think it was awkward because Gaga seemingly didn't play it tongue-in-cheek, when there are SEVERAL examples in the show of Phoebe not liking it/getting annoyed when people "add their own flair" to her songs.
They kind of covered that but I think they should have leaned into that even more with Gaga totally belting it out and all the extras coming in and then Phoebe being like "Meh... I mean your version was
okay but..."
