Nah there’s still plenty of variety out there, it’s just not on prime time mainstream broadcast telly. But that has more to do with the ever increasing number of content platforms than the content itself. Broadcast telly is dying so they’re hyper-sensitive to complaints and criticism, and desperate to “please everyone” (in the process not really catering to ANYONE).

She’s from an era where whole families were sat round one screen and had 4 or 5 channels to choose from in the evening. Those days are long gone. My house has 3x as many screens as people
