I get what you're saying but having been on the other end of I do understand why people get a bit tetchy about it. When we go for a meal with work, I tend to drink beer and just have a pizza or something and we always just split the bill. …it’s a weird one isn’t it…

…(…in my own experience, although as I say it’s been a few years since a bill was done this way for a big gathering…)…I’ve often been the ‘money gatherer’ for some reason, it’s not something I’ve volunteered for…and people would give me what they had spent etc…and then when it came to hand over, I never had enough…so I would pay the difference plus the tip…so some people must have been quite naughty or quite bad at maths…
…now with large gatherings…(…obviously we haven’t had on recently but…)…the meals are generally paid for in advance directly to the restaurant….
