I won’t dispute that customer service over here is at the very least lacking, but it’s not like that everywhere.
I was in L.A. in the very early eighties, with another London taxi driver, just two guys having a ball in California and Nevada, drinking too much bourbon and chasing too many women.
My friend had a Triumph TR6 back home, and he kept noticing them in California with unusual wheel trims.
We went to a British Leyland dealer in L.A. to try and buy a set, but they only had 3 in stock, so the clerk asked where we were staying.
That night he came to our hotel on the P.C.H. with a set of 4.
My friend paid him and offered him $20 as a thank you for going the extra mile.
He refused the tip, he just said, “Remember where you got them, and tell your friends.”
