True, assassination attempts became semi-regular after Lincoln I guess it put the idea in people's heads) and then there were several unsuccessful assassination attempts, and three more successful assassinations, within 100 years. Since JFK there have been none because that's when they massively increased security; you'd never see a POTUS riding down a busy street in an open-topped car these days.

As for why JFK was assassinated, I certainly don't think we know the real or full reasons but yes most likely he had something big on someone powerful and was indicating that he was going to release that information. I don't know about "exposing the deep state". Most sensible assumption would be that it was Cold War related - though not necessarily the Russians themselves.
