He used to interview well in his younger days (90's and early 2000's) and I've seen one or two good interviews during his Presidential era where he came across much better than in larger press conferences. To say that he faired well in those is not really accurate for me. He'd dodge and stonewall questions flippantly which his support base loved, but it's not really the same as annihilating a reporter with a spot-on answer is it. Granted - at the very least - I won't deny that he interviews better than Biden. I would note there though that Biden has a speech impediment - which is something that people like to conveniently forget or overlook.
I've seen him do plenty of absolutely dire interviews where he seemed uncomfortable and out of his depth as well though... this narrative that he's perfect is very odd.
Anyway, again, if he'd do well in an interview with an impartial reporter asking real unrehearsed questions then that's what I'd rather see than him sitting having an "interview" (a chat) with someone we know fine well he already knows, and likes, and who likes him, and who is not impartial by any measure.
