We're letting the eldest stay up until real-midnight this year too - for the last few years we've been sneaking all the clocks forward bit by bit from 6pm onwards, telling her it was midnight at 10.30 and celebrating, then packing her off to bed to do the real countdown at midnight

We told her about it a few weeks ago and to her credit she found it hilarious. She's been telling her pals she's been allowed to stay up for New Year since she was 8
