"boy" is used in the Cork dialect a lot actually, you can guarantee if someone from another Irish county is doing the Cork accent, they will add "boy" on to the end of the sentence

It's not that the word is offensive, it's a word Celtic fans often use to refer to themselves/the team ("The Bhoys") and he thought that because I used it, I must be a Celtic fan, and thus Catholic
