For your
own pain and suffering yes this is key for a lot of people, you can't really encourage (or force) other people to laugh about their own personal things though. Has to come from the individual, and only when they're ready, or it can be gently encouraged if you know someone VERY well.
Telling a stranger or an aquaintance who isn't a good friend that they need to laugh at their trauma is a pretty big misfire.
