One of the guy I know isn't a researcher though he's an electrician, was basically there as a glorified janitor for 6 months but getting paid an absolute fortune . The point being I suppose, you don't need to be a scientist to live in Antarctica for a bit, there are other jobs you can get at these places. Probably quite an amazing experience for someone young free & single.
