At the end of the day perspective tends to become more ingrained, not subverted; they won't get that shock you're waiting for them to get.
Brexiteers haven't "gotten a shock" at the various disasters currently facing Britain, they'd vote for it again. People now struggling to pay their bills would (and will) vote Tory again the next time they're at the polls. People pick their lane and stick to it no matter what sort of mental gymnastics are required.
In short; if Russia ends up in severe economic trouble, they'll blame "The Other". Not Putin.
