Yes, our car randomly went into "limp mode" (engine limits to 3000 revs because its picked up a fault) half way down the M6 a few months ago... Just as we were overtaking a massive truck. Suddenly lost a load of power and couldn't get up to speed. Terrifying.

There wasn't even a "real" problem, the plug for the air filter sensor had wriggled loose so it was picking up a potential fault with the air filter - when there wasn't one, the engine was totally fine, just an issue with the sensor itself .
