I can't see them removing audiences, but it might mean a "dividing area" between the stage and the crowd with security so that there's less chance of people getting near the stage. It's like that already at a lot of music events but isn't great for comedy shows... the best shows have plenty of audience interaction. Maybe a sort of compromise where the front few rows are subject to more strict vetting and security searches before entering could work.
