In America it IS how the waiters get paid. They’re generally paid next to nothing by the employer.
In the UK I’d only tip for genuinely exceptional service, personally.
Taxi’s (as it’s very rare I’m in one these days) traditionally I’d have rounded up to the nearest full not (e.g. if it was £8 I’d just give them a tenner) but these days even “normal” (non-Uber) taxis generally take contactless payments so
