People wouldn’t be so blasé about this if it had gotten out and bitten a kid, if a dog is so poorly trained that it escapes the garden and bites a random adult, it could have very easily been a child instead.

A poorly trained dog that attacks without provocation can not be trusted, yes it’s a sad story, a lonely old man who’s only comfort is this little dog, but if he can’t control his dog, he shouldn’t have it, give the dog another chance and the story might end differently next time I’m afraid
