Monkey pox is not an STD. You get it from skin to skin contact. You can get it from hugging or kissing or touching hands. Sexual activity is an easy way to get it because your skin gets the most exposure during it. Someone in the gay community got it and they congregated with other gays. Pride parades were happening all over the place around the time this skyrocketed. Heterosexuals are also getting it and they, too, will see numbers climb in time. It’s the same as chicken pox and small pox (although not as contagious as that one). It’s not a plague. It’s uncomfortable but it’s not AIDS. People need to be vaccinated, the same way they’re vaccinated for measles and chicken pox now. Monkey pox has existed for years. It isn’t the first time the US had a flare up - people got it from pet stores as animals are easily infected with it.
