This is one of those stories that you never really know what really happened.

If this guy has gone to try and get into what he believes is his home in a drunken state and finds someone who he thinks is a stranger in his home then maybe he would react violently.

This "innocent" man was in his house and heard noises outside, so why not phone the police and wait inside his door to stop anyone entering, surely that would be the sane thing to do. He had time and the thought to go and get a knife! this wasnt someone grabbing the nearset thing to hand really was it?

I think we all have the right to defend our homes and families but it worries me in this instance that the innocent killer had the forethought to go and get himself armed before responding to this guy "trying" to get into his home. The article says he picked up a knife and went downstairs, does that mean he keeps a knife in his bedroom. Lets also remember this other guy who has died was not actually in the property he was trying to enter.
