Certain types of dog aren't necessarily "vicious by nature", a lot of what makes these breeds so dangerous is physical rather than by nature. They have ridiculously strong jaws/bite strength and an instinct to "clamp down" and not let go. Basically it's the opposite to a retriever which will - normally - instinctually be relatively gentle when biting down and "drop" easily on command.

Any dog can lose control and attack but the consequences can be vastly different depending on breed.

Or for example... chihuahuas can be vicious as **** but for the mostpart all that's going to happen is nipped fingers. A pitbull can take your arm off.
