For me it’s just a case of not tarring everyone with the same brush. Normal Muslims (whether Islam is definitively a religion of peace or not) don’t deserve to be tarred with the same brush as extremists and people like them and I think that’s quite obvious to anyone who has Muslim mates. There’s enough hate in the world as it is. Plus Eid Murbarak’s a low-key vibe. Even if you’re an atheist.
