Yeah and I get it for forums like this or even social media where there's going to be a message "present" for a while, but surely WhatsApp is just conversational so a typo or two (if the meaning is still obvious) isn't an issue and if there's a misunderstanding you just correct it with another message... editing and fixing a message seems somehow a bit "formal" for whatsapp .

I can basically also see it being mainly used for people who have said crappy things in messages to "remove the evidence" for gaslighting purposes tbh. Yes people can still screenshot, but screenshots can be easily doctored, they're not "proof" in the same way that being able to show an original message is.

Ans WhatsApp doesn't have lovely mods and admins who can check and verify the original .
