"Not permitted to stop them"
Also possibly cottoning onto the fact that it's not worth getting AIDS from a needle-stick stabbing from a junkie to save a faceless company a few £, whilst being paid minimum wage.
Why would anyone who isn't employed specifically as security staff ever tackle a thief? It's not your money! Putting yourself in harm's way is ridiculous.
The above actually happened to a mate of mine btw not just hypothetical - he worked for TK Maxx, chased down and fought with a junkie stealing sunglasses, got pricked with a needle.
He didn't actually catch anything but he sure did have a fun time getting pumped full of precautionary drugs/waiting/testing to make sure.
Simply not worth it. If these companies want security guards, they need to pay for security guards, not expect their front line staff to do that as well.
