Similar to the actors' strike; people live to their means, and getting less money - either literally less, or effectively less through not getting proportionate pay rises - can hit anyone.

Assuming all actors and doctors are incredibly rich is foolish, when most will probably be in the "upper middle". That bracket is most likely to be hurt by that sort of thing, as they'd probably be living beyond what they came from, but won't be rich enough to weather all storms.
