100% agree.

His reaction is the main red flag to me and shows he is either not used to being called out or sees no wrong in his actions even when he knows he has made someone very uncomfortable.

I don't care how fierce or passionate someone is about anything, if your actions make someone else uncomfortable, no matter how innocuous you perceive it, you acknowledge their feelings and apologise.
