Personally I think phasing the Soaps out is a bad idea.

While they're certainly not my thing, they do have a lot of fans when actually made well, plus there have been quite a few Actors over the years that have had their breakout on a Soap Opera and then gained superstar status later on in their career.

To use a foreign example, Chris Hemsworth started off on Home & Away, without that Show he never would've got the Thor role, which in turn has given him other Movie offers in Hollywood, and he is now one of the biggest names in Hollywood, that was all thanks to Home & Away.
