Young listeners are turning to their parents bands - here are the songs standing the test of time
Youngsters are now increasingly turning to the radio equivalent of their mum and dad’s - and even grandparents’ - ageing record collections
A radio station aimed at people born between 1946 and 1964 has become one of the fastest growing in the UK, with a sharp rise in younger listeners tuning in.
Boom Radio, named after the baby boomer generation and broadcasting from its presenters’ bedrooms and garden sheds, has seen the number of under-50s rocking to its mix of Sixties and Seventies music more than double in the last year (up from 64,000 to 136,000) - making up 20 per cent of its overall listeners.
Station almost doubles its number of listeners
The station - which was launched during lockdown by veteran presenters with an average age of 70 - has almost doubled its total number of listeners in the last year, according to the latest official research, with the number of hours spent by listeners rising from 3.95m to 7.74m.
