This is why I struggle to blame the likes of Japan for refusing to acknowledge the Rape of Nanking and other such atrocities. I mean if self-flagellating and acknowledging past mistakes leads a country to this point, where you're not even allowed to take pride in the national heritage and do something as simple and inoffensive as flying the nation's flag, then maybe subscribing to an unfeeling philosophy of might makes right is the better alternative. I don't like that either, but if the other option leads you down the path we're currently on...
