"The victims" as always here isn't really something you can pin down (other than to say that any civilian life on any side caught in the crossfire is a victim) - the political situation in the Middle East has been a thunderdome for longer than living memory. It's very, very complex and has always been somewhat held together with duck tape and crazy glue.

But people be people and they like their heroes and villains, goodies and baddies... black and white... so to speak. Pointing out political complexity is seen as "fence sitting" - you have to pretend that everything is simple, neat and tied up with a pretty little ribbon, one way or the other, even though it doesn't and never will reflect the reality.
