Don't get me wrong I doubt he's "dumb", you don't become a billionaire by accident, but he's not a genius-level scientist by any measure.

Most of his wealth comes from his shares in Tesla. It is governments telling everyone that electric cars are the future, and that they are going to ban new petrol and diesel car sales that has increased the value of that company.
