Abeg, black is black and mixed race is mixed race. They are not the same thing at all. When you’re 3/4 black it’s a different story but when you’re exactly 50-50, that’s what you are. A lot of purely white people do it as a subconscious relic from the one-drop rule principle, which is inherently racist. You won’t accept them as your own so of course they have to be black. Same goes for quadroons (and by extension probably even octoroons, people who are only 1/8 black) who look closer to mixed race than black being forced by white people to identify as black. So racist. So inherently, disgustingly racist and white hegemonic. Many more people than you know are mixed with something/have backgrounds that are somewhat or at least a little heterogenous. What they choose to identify as is a very personal, individual thing. Mixed-race people are not inherently black just because the average white person says so. Having a Jamaican great-aunt and a like of plantain doesn’t inherently mean “yeah, you’re basically black”.
Anyway, that one ain’t a little ting.

Tbf, there are some mixed race people out there that do like to identify as black.
To me I just like to try and focus on the person rather than on the colour of their skin, unless it's under a scenario where I have to describe the person's appearance.
