Yes they are a weird couple.
Nathan is particular appears to me a very cold fish. Yes he can say what he thinks is the right thing about being in love, but like you say, none of what he says, nor the expressions on his face, show any sign he's really in love.
Baked Potato is equally bland about the so-called love they're in.
