Marcello was obviously referring to this attitude. Marcello was a chef, he will know how that cooking isn't a female dominated industry, so I don't think his point reflected his views specifically.

You've described it much better than I have.
But I honestly don't get how anyone has misinterpreted what Marcello meant, he made it pretty clear.
I get that some people don't like him (which is fair enough) but there's no need to twist what he meant, because he made Dean look like a prick in the argument.
