Brilliant indeed. A character like Phil has been crying out for this kind of storyline for years. He’s not just the generic indestructible hard man he’s come to be associated as now, and if you’d have watched the show prior to Grant leaving in the first instance (’99), it is quite obvious. Even his semi-sociopathic shenanigans this side of 1999 come from a place of being fundamentally not okay, by very-virtue of the nature of being truly antisocial.
