South africa. Although the constitution and law prohibit such practices, there were reports of police and National Defense Force use of torture and physical abuse, some of which resulted in death. The 2021/2022 IPID report cited 99 reported inmate rapes by police officers, 192 reports of torture, as well as reports of assault.
