The fact that more people don’t get on this bad boy when it comes to truly understanding the schizoid personality and their inner life (there are better resources of information out there for cyclothymia, though). Instead of delving into how the polished aristocrat can become the brutal despot under too much tension, it’s all about “flattened affect”, “cluster A” and to what extent they avoid social interaction. This book will teach you a trillion and one times more about the schizoid personality and its richness than anything in the DSM could. Call it philosophical psychiatry, tragic pathos meets psychology, Dostoevsky-leaning (as-opposed to Freud) groundwork for a psychoanalytical novel. Whatever. But what it isn’t is a generic checklist. And more people should read it.
