Simple answer is I feel like he's old and wise enough to know that 3 weeks is a very short span of time and easy easy to coast through doing absolutely nothing... So that's what he'll do.
'tis why longer seasons were always the best; you can stay in a shell for 3 weeks no problem if so inclined, especially older folks. You cannot do it for 3 months
