At the time when she did come out as a lesbian it did significantly effect her brand negatively and alienated much of her old (but aging) base. Some of them were parents who were approving of their children's obsession with her up to the point of spending big *ss money to support their fandom. Apparently she had made a killing selling tons of Jojo-themed items to them (Jojo's bows, etc). Anyway, Nickelodeon weren't particularly happy with having to deal with working around that.

Edit: She did seem to blame the LGBT community for pressuring her to hold to one label over another. It's in one of my recaps of her post-BB interviews... I'd have to go find it...

Re: Her ongoing brand/rebrand;

Her sexuality and her relationships have been such a big part of her professional persona, in both her music and her online presence, it's likely impossible to separate "normal Jojo" from total fiction. So I agree there is some overlap as to why she may push one label over another, but I don't think it's for the reasons we are being told. (emotionally fragile child star, etc)

For example: Her ignorance due to her sheltered child star past I think is more fiction than not. She's tried to model her style and business from her DM days. She even opened a dance school with her Mom that used methods very close to Abby's. It had similar reviews and complaints like the school Abby had run that were considered abusive and yet she was allegedly purported to be one of Abby's biggest victims if going by viral videos and the way the fans speak of her. She has been leaning into that without going so far to alienate her Mom or Abby from her brand.

There may be actual fallout later that does connect back to those events later on that might reflect the actual damage to her psyche, but I also think she's choosing to play up those childhood experiences as part of a brand, especially the worst bits that went viral on the internet to play up her persona. She's not very choosy as to which parts of her personality and personal life are openly monetized.

When I was writing commentary on one of her interviews (I think it was with Nick Viall), I had a good laugh because she slipped during one of her self-discovery tangents about how her experience in BB had reflected so strongly upon her and transformed her and taught her all these important things about her past and how she's now learned to see differently, etc... but then immediately almost as if in the same thought, she announced a new song and said "Oh, and that's why I did this song" (Yes, like that)... as if the song had been written just for that big moment.

That was a huge slip and showed just how methodical even her organic moments of "self-discovery" play a huge role in how she conducts her brand and markets herself. So yeah, that suggested to me to not really trust much of what comes out of Jojo's mouth and that it's likely really a waste of time trying to figure out what is or isn't fictional with her at any moment... especially if it's something she's actively milking on her Tiktok, etc, taking advantage of the fact people are addicted to knowing what happens with her weird brand next...
I 100% agree with the BIB in particular.

And just to clarify to any Jojo fans on here, I honestly don't even dislike her, I've seen much worse people on Big Brother over the years, including the international versions.

But I don't trust what she says in the media at this point.

Although I still trust her word more than Politicians and Footballers.
